The practice of yoga is focused equally on strengthening the body and the spirit. Yoga is not a religion, but many people find that the practice of yoga encourages mindfulness which impact mental and physical health in a positive way.
The award-winning City of Lynchburg Department of Parks and Recreation offers so much: 17 parks, with organized and open areas for recreation, picnicking, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and children’s play, over 40 miles of trails that wind through Lynchburg, & 9 recreation centers, which support planned group programs, birthdays, baby showers, community meetings, and more! They offer classes and programs year-round including camps for basketball, soccer, tennis, and more.
James River Yoga offers Yoga for all levels (including Chair Yoga), Tai Chi, Meditation, and Pilates. Classes are limited to 10 people during the pandemic. Drops ins are welcome. Please email Nancy at NALLENESQ@GMAIL.COM to sign up for the FREE COMMUNITY CLASS on Friday nights.
Bikram Yoga classes are 90 minutes long and take place in a room heated to 105 degrees with 40 percent humidity. The heat improves flexibility and increases the number of calories burned in each session!
Mindful Mountain Yoga offers a holistic approach to health and well-being through movement and mindful awareness. This studio welcomes every ability level. Beginners encouraged. Veterans may practice in group classes for free. Private classes are happening in Charlottesville and Amherst at home and business locations only. COVID-19 precautions have suspended our regular group studio classes until further notice.

Dancing with Lynchburg since 1939, Seven Hills Dance Studio has taught hundreds of students how to point, shuffle, pirouette, and leap, all with style and grace, and of course, all while having fun! They offer a variety of dance class choices for ages 3 – 18 as well as select master classes, workshops, and summer intensives. Classes follow a comprehensive program from September – May each year culminating in a spring recital giving students the opportunity to perform in a professional grade production.
